Newberry Library Exhibit Features Images by Richard Mack
The Newberry Library exhibit Lewis & Clark and the Indian Country in Chicago features landscape images from The Lewis & Clark Trail American Landscapes by Richard Mack. This exquisite exhibit examines the Indian country which the Corps of Discovery passed through and the role the Native Americans played in the success of the expedition.
In conjunction with this exhibit, a series of lectures will take place. On November 5th, Richard lectured to a capacity crowd on The Lewis & Clark Trail and The American Landscape. His lecture featured images from the book The Lewis & Clark Trail American Landscapes and he discussed some of the changes along the route over the last 200 years and the places he found where you can still catch a glimpse of what it might have been like for Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery in the early 1800’s. Afterwards, Richard signed copies of his book which sold out quickly.

“The Lewis and Clark Trail: American Landscapes is a 256-page full-color slab of a book. It’s a rapturous representation of the American landscape, seen both in grand wide-angle vistas and in the surfaces of wildflowers and water. It’s a book that John Muir would’ve liked.”
